Prof Kafiluddin calls on PM

Professor Emeritus Dr Kafiluddin called on Prime Minister Khaleda Zia at her office here yesterday. He apprised the Prime Minister of his research book on health and environment now under process of publication.
Founder Director of NIPSOM. Professor Emeritus Dr. A.K.M. Kafiluddin handed over his book “HUMAN HEALTH, DISEASES AND THE ENVIRONMENT dissemination of research findings and emerging and re-emerging diseases-update Part I and Part II’’ to Hon’ble Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, on Thursday, 21st April 2005 at Prime Minister’s office.

Begum Khaleda Zia eulogized Dr. A.KM. Kafiluddin for his contribution in spreading medical education in the country. She also thanked him for preparing such a useful and important research oriented manuscript even at his ripe old age.

Preface

My intention to produce an up-to date account of the Advance Medical Knowledge on human health that would be of particular value to the General Physician and to the post graduate students seeking higher qualifications. The introduction of various researches on human health and environment with findings will surely enrich reader of this book with update knowledge about diseases and environment.Knowledge is Power and health research is essential for advancing health and development, for guiding health action and generating information to enable community in achieving better health, developing powerful tools against diseases, vaccine to prevent diseases, pesticides to control disease vectors, for providing basis for effective planning and wise use of scarce resources, and fostering a scientific problem solving culture and finally for leading to a process. Health is not only a beneficiary of development but also a spur to it as well.

Most of the chapters of this book have new leading figures in the teaching of medicine. In this book, recent scientific advances in diseases epidemiology, pathology, therapeutic innovation, control and preventive methods basing on research findings have been included.The recent explosion of knowledge in molecular and cell biology has been incorporated in this book. The chapters on diabetes, coronary syndrome, viral infection, disaster have been focused in lucid manner with recent techniques in their management. This book outlining the concept of health research findings, deserve publication for wide dissemination for the benefit of field workers, policy makers and health administrators. The examples, Tables, figures and maps presented in this volume will be of immediate practical use to health workers. This volume will not only provide basic information on research methods and research results in the health and environmental field but will also help health young scientists to become more productive and efficient by giving them a better understanding of research design and research finding. The book is collection of selected researches with the findings and updated deliberations on different subjects such as epidemiology, environment, community medicine, communicable and non-communicable disease, disaster, reproductive child health, different type of pollution (air pollution, poisoning), special group of subject such as alzheimer's disease. Accident and injuries, traveller's health, kala-azar, rabies, obesity, leprosy, nutrition and development, schistosomiasis, iodine deficiency disease have been dealt with extensively.


This book has been written in two parts, Part-1 deals with research on varieties subjects with findings and recommendations while Part-2 depicts with update topics on emerging and re-emerging diseases covering communicable and non-communicable disease.The research topics and emerging disease are relevant to priority problems of National and International arena. The volume contains 103 figures, 111 Tables and 11 maps, which will provide easy understanding of the subject by the reader.


I hope publication and reading of this volume will stimulate scientists, such as health and environmental activists, civil society, policy planners and decision-makers, medical and public health professional to understand gravity of environmental, disaster and health related problems.
